Legal Text

AI systems used as safety components of products covered by specific Union harmonisation legislation should be subject to the high-risk classification. The reason is that failures of such safety components can lead to severe consequences for the safety of persons. The classification as high-risk for AI safety components should apply irrespective of whether the AI system is placed on the market independently from the products covered by such legislation or as part of a product.
Recitals are the preamble paragraphs of the EU AI Act. They explain the intent behind provisions but are not directly binding.
