Legal Text

This Regulation should enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal. In view of the significant changes that this Regulation entails for the existing practices and the need to allow adequate time for adjustment, the application of this Regulation should be deferred to 24 months after its entry into force. However, some provisions should apply earlier: the rules on prohibited AI practices should apply 6 months after entry into force; the rules on GPAI models should apply 12 months after entry into force; the provisions on notified bodies should apply 24 months after entry into force.
Recitals are the preamble paragraphs of the EU AI Act. They explain the intent behind provisions but are not directly binding.
