Article 58 — Implementation of AI Regulatory Sandboxes

1. The AI sandbox established pursuant to Article 57(1) shall be made available to small-scale providers and start-ups on a priority basis.

2. Participation in the AI regulatory sandbox shall be limited to a period that is appropriate in view of the complexity and scale of the project, and shall not exceed 12 months from the date on which the sandbox plan is agreed.

3. The participants in the AI regulatory sandbox shall remain subject to applicable Union and national law. The supervisory activities carried out by the competent authorities in the AI regulatory sandbox shall not affect the supervisory and corrective powers of those authorities.

4. Participation in the AI regulatory sandbox shall not affect the supervisory or corrective powers of the competent authorities. Any significant risk to health, safety or fundamental rights identified during the development and testing shall result in immediate mitigation and, if that is not possible, in the suspension of the development and testing process.
